The day starts very early, the light still dim outside, hunting for matches to light a fire. As one of my friends said "you have to like a gal that has stripper clips of SS109 Steel Core penetrators in her kitchen junk drawer".
"Good. Bad.
I'm the guy with the gun"
Or while hawking the latest in stainless steel.
"Name's Ash (cocks rifle). . . . Housewares".
But now it's time to get some work done. There's brass to be polished.
Guns to be cleaned
Yardwork to do.
Books to read.
Doesn't every girl have a 5.56MM M16A2 rifle maintenance manual lying around in a pink binder?
And one VERY patient black lab that wants me to put the camera down and take him to the park that has the deep creek he can jump into during his walk.

What a great post, thank you! The picture of Barkely with the rifle reminds me of a dog well loved and long gone. Sigh..
I don't know which I like the most, the rifle or the casserole! I guess I can at least make the casserole myself. ;o)
WV: ovendit, basically what you did to that casserole
AAAAAHHHH!
You had me until the "garand" pun!
:-)
...Not a huge fan of peppers, but those are easy enough to yank out of a recipe ;). Nice Pics Bridget - though every time I see one, they make me want one of my own. I'm going to have to work a Garand into next years budget... somehow.

Always nice to read your 'lighter' posts, Brigid.
Is that a Marlin? 336, maybe?
I have an 1894 in 357, and it's just about the sweetest little rifle I've ever fired.
Good dog, good food, good rifle, good times!
I hope you have a great weekend.
Love those Marlins!
Can't run short of SS109 in the kitchen! Got a new camera two weeks ago and you've got me embarrassed that I'm not putting it to better use so far.
I'm a Marlin rifle fan too, have one that's been in the family for well over 100+ year's. I'd wondered if you'd read any of John Ringo's book's, now I know that you have...
HOLY COW! We must be best 1st cousins in that fabled 4th dimension. I just came back from shooting and re-entered the garage carrying........M-1 Garrand and a Marlin 336 30-30. We have 2 "junk" drawers here. His and Hers. His has 3 10 round sks strippers in it and Hers has all my phillips screwdrivers I can never find. Go figure. steve
garand.........ggrrrrrrr
I hope to see you at the Gun Blogger Rendezvous next year...
Those are two of my most favorite rifles! Nothing inspires confidence more than a 10 lb steel and walnut long range sledgehammer! I had the rangemaster going the other day, he came down to the lane and asked me "WHAT ON EARTH are you shooting!" "I have NEVER seen the plate (200 yd) swing like that!"
So I let him in on the secret- keep hammering it on the backswing so it builds up momentem , ya can almost knock the stand over!
And the marlin- was there ever a handier rifle ?
Looks like a great start to a weekend to me!
You have made my wife extremely jealous. Now she's gonna be hounding me for one of those SS1894C. The good news is that if I get her one, she might give my old pre-safety one back to me.
Seriously, those are really fun little carbines and the 357mag is a whole nother animal out of a carbine. Enjoy
That may be the neatest junk drawer I've ever seen... And yes stripper clips are way hot... Is the casserole recipe posted? I'll check. Love the Garand wishes. Another great post. I hope you have an awesome weekend.
I love Barkley.
Garand & C. Sharps 50/110 X 2-1/2 Sharps or Marlin 45/70, they all do right.
Breakfast Casserole makes my mouth water and I don't eat breakfast!!!
OMG!!! I gained 5 lbs just from the pictures!!

Army of Darkness is #2 Son's favorite movie. Good clean fun, other than that bit with the hand and the chainsaw ...

Camp Perry, Ohio
John C. Garand match.
"As Issued" and Unlimited classes.
35-rounds prone slow-fire, prone rapid-fire and standing slow-fire, and they issue Hornady ammo these days.
As the old saying goes, be there, or be square.....I don't shoot the Garand seriously these days, but it's great fun when it doesn't rain, like it did this year.......
Great post- At least it will be a productive weekend :-)
Another awesome Brigid post!
I still think you should be a Pro Writer and Chef. You do have and makes some awesome dishes and with the way you write, well, it's a win/win!! (not to mention fantastic photography!) Thanks!
I hope my wife doesn't see the pink counter. I can use a nice lever gun.
Post like this one are what keep me coming back. Great photos of some of my favorite things, great text and a positive attitude.
I hope that yardwork picture is "after". It looks 10 times better than mine when I'm done and feeling proud of myself.
Have a great weekend.
Keith
Any post that ends with a Garand pun is a winner in my book.
Good shooting and a pleasant weekend, Brigid.
I've been looking for one of those .357 Marlins for a while. They seem to be kind of rare in the gun stores, I've just about reached the conclusion I will have to try to get one from an online source....a first for me, never bought a gun on line before.
Today, after getting a haircut, is range time---falling steel plates with a .38 snubbie. Draw and fire, reload and fire.
Great practice.
Great Garand shot. You caught the essence of the weapon in that photograph.
Enjoy your weekend my virtual friend, wish I knew you for real!
Here just a regular weekend befor a hectic week protecting UK society at work next week! But good fun, middle daughter (aged 9) took her first turn at the controlls of a warbird today, the 1943 Piper Cub belonging to my sisters partner. Plane still proudly wearing her US Army Air Corps paintwork she carried over occupied France when new. Think that is another member of this family bitten by the flying bug!
Then off to last of the years big game fairs tomorrow with same daughter planning looking for a .410 for me to buy her for clay pidgeon shooting!
Hope you have as much fun!

God woman, you really know how to bring the awesome
That Marlin is one VERY fun gun to shoot. I have one and every time I shoot it I come away with an ear to ear grin.
